HKU and Qianhai Authority Strategic Partnership
The HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Academy (TEA) is a key initiative stemming from the strategic cooperation agreement signed between HKU and the Shenzhen Qianhai Authority in 2022. Located in the North District of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Innovation and Dream Factory, the academy leverages HKU's strengths in talent, research, innovation, and internationalization, combined with Qianhai's unique position as a pilot zone for Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation.
The Inaugural 11 Startups
On September 4, 2024, HKU TEA officially opened. The first batch of 11 startups was composed of HKU professors, current students, and alumni, selected through a rigorous process across frontier fields including AI, health tech, new energy, and new materials. WeWrites was the only education technology project selected, reflecting HKU's emphasis on AI applications in education.
Among all selected startups, WeWrites was the sole company focused on the education technology track.Opening Ceremony and Supporting Resources
The opening ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including HKU Deputy Vice-President (Research) Professor Shen Zuojun and Qianhai Authority Director Wang Shourui. Also launched were the HKU Entrepreneurship Engine Fund (with its first batch of investment partners) and the HKU Entrepreneurship Angel Alliance, providing dual support in funding and mentorship.
Admission to HKU TEA means more than just office space and infrastructure — it provides access to HKU's entire innovation ecosystem, including investor connections, technical guidance, and market development support across multiple dimensions.
